Can You Rent a Car in Qatar Without a Credit Card? Payment & Deposit Options

Some Qatar rental providers allow alternatives to a credit card, while others use card-based deposits. Learn what to verify before booking and why “no credit card” does not necessarily mean “no deposit.”
Can you rent a car in Qatar without a credit card? The safest answer is: sometimes, depending on the rental company, vehicle and payment arrangement. It should not be treated as a universal Qatar rule.
Published rental terms show substantial variation. AVR currently says customers without a credit card may, under its policy, provide a specified personal security cheque. SelfDrive's booking process uses debit or credit cards, and its terms describe card-based deposits. Other providers publish their own combinations of credit cards, debit cards and deposits.
These examples show policy variation, not Infinity's current terms.
Infinity's own FAQ already lists questions about accepted payment methods, whether a deposit is required and when a security deposit is refunded. These details need to be verified internally before this upgraded article goes live.
Why rental companies ask for a card
A rental involves more than paying the rental rate. A provider may need an agreed security mechanism for potential contractual amounts such as damage liability, traffic fines or other post-rental charges.
Depending on the company, that may involve a card authorization, deposit, charge or another approved method.
The important distinction is that rental payment and security deposit are separate questions. A company might accept one method for paying the rental but use a different requirement for the deposit.
Ask these questions before booking
- Is your intended payment method accepted for the exact vehicle and rental duration?
- Is a security deposit required?
- How is that deposit taken?
- Must the person whose name is on the payment instrument also be the primary renter?
- When is an eligible deposit released after the vehicle is returned?
Ask these questions before travelling to collect the car.
Payment requirements may also change by vehicle class, so an arrangement available for an economy vehicle should not be assumed to apply to a premium car.
Does debit card mean no deposit?
No. Accepting a debit card and waiving a deposit are different policies.
A provider may accept a debit card while still requiring a security amount. Conversely, a particular promotion or product may use a different security structure.
The same applies to cash: even when a company accepts cash for some part of the transaction, it does not automatically mean cash satisfies every deposit or authorization requirement.
What should tourists prepare?
In addition to payment arrangements, visitors need to confirm their driving documents.
Qatar Tourism's guidance states a general minimum rental age of 21 and advises renters to present a passport and a valid or international driving licence.
The Ministry of Interior says holders of valid international driving licences may drive for up to six months, with separate provisions for qualifying GCC-licence visitors.
Your rental company may impose additional age, document or vehicle-category requirements.
What should residents prepare?
Residents should confirm their Qatar identification and driving-licence requirements along with the payment policy.
Do not rely on a travel blog written for tourists once your residency status has changed.
Confirm Infinity's payment policy before booking
Before booking, customers should ask Infinity Rent A Car to confirm the following details:
- Accepted payment methods
- Security deposit requirements and method
- Debit-card conditions
- Cash-payment conditions
- Cardholder requirements
- Vehicle-specific restrictions
These policies must be verified directly with Infinity rather than assumed.
A transparent answer helps customers understand whether they can complete the booking before arriving to collect their vehicle.
